Hey all. Its time for a top end rebuild on my 93 cr125. Yes its old as hell but still enjoy riding it. Anyway, am I going to need to get the cylinder re-plated after I have it honed? Its just stock, no over bore or anything fancy. Thanks!

I don't think you're supposed to hone the nickel plated cylinders. From what I understand, if you damage the cylinder, you get it replated. But no honing. Somone correct me if I'm wrong.

This is correct. You muste re-sleeve it or re-plate it.

I think you can use a really mild ball hone just to take off a little of the glazing. Usually you want the new piston to create its own glaze on the cylinder.

I had also heard that before installing a new piston, you should ball hone the cylinder lightly.

LIGHTLY honing the cylinder will pose no issues, however, it must be a diamond impregnated hone to really do anything but clean the cylinder. If you can see a differentiation in material you'll need it replated. We use Millenium Technologies with great success.

Those cylenders are so hard with nykel plating they haredly were out. Evean on a 1993 cr
unless the cylinder is scratched or nicked or melted clean it up with soap and water. slap a piston back in it AND GO RIDE. Replating uless dameged is a waste of mony and time.
light honing is ok with a ball hone but really wont do much exept damage if not done right!
