Not trying to single the otter out, but "I want a new one!" is demanding.
You would have got a better response with something like, "Would someone like to make me one, please?" or "Could someone make me one please?"

Asking requires you to provide a question. "I want a new one!" is a demand.

You apparently don't know how you come across and I am trying to help you see how you sounded. ;-)
