From videos I've seen, including a x360/ps3 comparison video of the game, it looks like the PS3 version has a terrible framerate compared to the buttery smooth x360 version.

Is this true? If there's one thing that's important in a racer it's the framerate. I am HUGELY looking forward to this game but I only have a PS3 and I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed and very sad.

Ronron maybe you can take away my fears? I hope?

Well, here it is from the IGN review:

"Graphically, Baja: Edge of Control was a bit of a shock when we saw it running on PS3. The game looked so much worse than its 360 counterpart that we checked to see if we had recieved a PS2 build by mistake. True story. The anti-aliasing looked practically non-existent; the cars' were pixellated and fuzzy; and the framerate was jerky and all over the map. More than anything else in the game, the way Baja: Edge of Control looks on PS3 seriously interfered with our ability to enjoy the game."

You can't imagine how disappointed I feel. Is there any way that this can be fixed in a patch?

Yeah I read that review...IGN is completely biased on PURE and MOTORSTORM! I think they were playing the game on a 10 years old TV with crappy cables and no HD, and SONY's paying them...lol

The PS3 version looks almost identical to the Xbox 360 one. The only difference is that the PS3 doesn't have anti-aliasing enabled, but you can barely notice it, especially if you play the game in HD...the framerate isn't as good on the PS3, but only sometimes like when you're in a huge pack of cars with dust and particles flying around everywhere for example, the rest of the time it's the same. It definitively won't get in your way like the IGN review says...

Here's a trailer that compares both versions side by side, so you can see for yourself and realize how off the IGN review is:

I think most reviewers that will give BAJA bad reviews are either huge SONY/Motorstorm fan boys and can't look any farther then their nose, or just hate simluation racers because they're not goo enough to win and they want everything given to them.
BAJA is a simulation, not an arcade racer. It seems like lots of people forget that! If you're into real racing, you're gonna love BAJA :good:

I love the gameplay, I just don't think the graphics are that great. It's not "seriously interfering with my gaming experience" though. Oh and for some reason when I go to modify my vehicles it doesn't show the improvements, it just shows empty bars?

Ok I've played the game now on PS3 for 13 hours straight yesterday, and 12 the day before. I'm really loving it.

I will say though, that a patch would be GREATLY appreciated. The main issues on the PS3 for me are that the graphics look much better on xbox360. Not sure how much you guys could even do with a patch there, but ANY improvement would be appreciated, especially with the framerate. The first race with the rollercoaster is nearly unplayable.

Also an updated online lobby system is definitely needed. The system in place just doesn't work. Most races don't get more than 2 or 3 people due to the current setup. Just the ability to see if a race has started or is still waiting for players would be a huge improvement.

I believe most people with the game have these same issues, and an update patch addressing these would be wonderful and it would show that you guys really care. It's clear that you've put a lot of love into the game already.

Other than that the game is truly a joy to play and I hope you guys keep up the great work. Thanks a ton RonRon. I know you had a hand in the track design and I have yet to play a track I don't like. I love the 'feel' of the games you guys create, and this one is no different. I can't wait to play some more.

I know that THQ was talking about a patch for the PS3 version, but I'm not sure for what exactly and when. I'm surprised you think the graphics look much better on 360, because they look the same to me, except for the framerate and anti aliasing.

The framerate issues on the PS3 have been a nightmare for us to try and fix, developping a game for the PS3 is incredibly hard compared to xbox 360...sony is doing things very differently and making things very hard for devs, go figure?!? The sad thing is, and that's why tons of games look and play worse on PS3, it takes millions of dollars and much more men power to be able to trully tap into the PS3's power - which btw isn't really any better then the 360....
A game like Motorstorm or Pure for example is a $20 million + game to develop and around 60-90 programers/artists working on it, and keep in mind that Motorstorm only had 8 tracks...and Pure as 45 I believe, and they only had to make the game for PS3.
We made BAJA with a lot less money then that and our team has 18 programers/artists, and for both consoles! We have 160 real life teams and over 140 vehicles, ten 9 square miles environements where you can drive anywhere, and over 95 tracks.

I am as bummed as many people about the PS3's framerate issues and lack of anti-aliasing, but it was impossible for us to make the PS3 version any better with the amount of time and money we had. I am glad that you guys are really enjoying the game, and that you can look past the few shortcomings. We'll definitively get those fixed and everything else improved in our next game!

I get why it turned out the way it did, but it does suck because now I'm not going to be buying it. I was just watching the gametrailers video you linked, and the differences in the anti-aliasing and framerate are way too glaring. I still really wanna play the demo when it comes out though. Perhaps that will change my mind.
