What is it about MX that keeps you into it? What is the feeling you get that you cant find anywhere else? To me, its the free feeling you get from it. You can go a lot faster in a car, but youre surrounded, almost too safe feeling for me. You can go faster on a streetbike, but you cant get that flying through the air feeling.
No matter how much stress I have going on, anytime I ride they all disappear immedietly and I cant find anything else that does it for me. So what is it for you?

A cool part of MX for me is sitting around a couple of trucks with you bikes on the stands BSing about whatever, then hitting the trails. Maybe stopping at some creek or river. Jumping in cuz it's so hot.

right on man. back in the day when i was like 13-14 and just kinda gettin into mx, me and some friends would spend half the day riding at our track and playriding and whatnot and then we would go hit some trails and eventually stop and chill at this creek. on hot days we would just jump right in with all our gear on and swim for however long. even now 5-6 years thats right at the top of my list of best riding memories.

Its def. a couple different things for me. There's nothing like going to a track on a sunday to just mess around with your friends and get away from all your problems. The freedom to go as fast as you want and flying through the air is awesome. Race wise the adrenaline you get on a starting gate during your very first moto on race day is one of the best feelings in the world for me. The fact that no matter how fast you get you can always push yourself to go faster makes motocross one of a kind.

I feel as though it's just indescribable. I can't really pinpoint what it is that makes me come back for more. I guess it's just what my life has been since I was 4 years old.
As with most, even after spending basically all of 2008 laid up, I still have the strongest desire to ride. Not a day goes by that I don't get jealous of people that are physically capable of riding. It looks like the earliest I will be back is March, 2009, so the jealousy must resume for a couple more months.

I agree whole heartedly agree with whats been said already, good points.

But I think there is an element in motocross in which I can NOT describe and many of you probbaly feel the same. Perhaps an X factor if you will. I am not sure where it comes from or how it works. . . **** it I am not going to try and explain this ha ha too hard.

I will call IT the "X" factor of motocross/supercross that keeps me coming back on my knees for more

I never learned to enjoy it, i'd just focus so much on getting faster that i'd always end the day frustrated or hurt. So that's why I don't ride anymore. I'm used to being one of the best players on stick and ball sports teams, so not being that fast or stylish was just pissing me off.

At first it was all about showing up on Sunday and even if I didn't win I would love to hear "Sh*t he's in my class." That was awesome but then getting hurt a lot made me realize it's all about being on the bike and forgetting everything except what jump or turn is in front of me.

Dang Tube, that definetly has to suck. There were about 5 local pros around here that that happened to, it was a bummer to see. You were intermediate or pro werent you?

My life went to **** when I quit riding/racing this year. I need riding to keep my head on straight. It's just an awesome feeling on the track when nothing else matters.

I've had moments where I was riding and then I'd stop for a while for whatever reason, and looking back, I think that everytime I was riding things seemed to be going better in my general life, but when I wasn't riding, things took a bad turn and my life was full of stress and problems... Like right now for instance, not riding, sold the bike, and I wanna throw myself off a mountain right now... not literally, just saying

Haha yeah I remember your goon pics, but I also thought you looked solid in your regular pics, so I dunno.

I do it for the chicks brah.

For me it's what keeps me going. If I didn't ride I wouldn't feel the need to wake up at 5:45 and go work at a job where I'm freezing/sweating my ass off, dirty and pissed. And after all that the only thing that makes it better is going out to the track and doing some moto's. Also just seeing your improvement year to year. I went from complete spode to local pro in a few years and i regularly beat people who have been racing am. nationals since they were on 50's. Knowing I did it myself makes it that much sweeter.

Oh, and the best feeling int he whole world? This.

I'm much the same man. I loved motocross when I rode but I'm the kind of person that goes all in and does my absolute best or doesn't do it at all. Any sport or hobby I get into.. I usually get good equipment and devote a lot of time to getting good at it. Motocross is something that takes either natural ability or lots of time devoted to it in order to get fast. I couldn't put much time into it and was always frustrated that I wasn't faster. I enjoyed it but I would just get mad at myself cus I would get tired in a few laps or couldn't hang with somebody I thought I should have. I sold my bike back in March and haven't really thought much about getting another one, just decided to put my money into other things. But looking back on it.. I would not trade a single second I put into riding for any other thing in the world. I had a total blast while it lasted and will encourage my kids to do the same one day. I still thoroughly enjoy watching people that haul butt, and always will, which is why I've decided to stick with videoing/photographing this wonderful sport called motocross.
