Hey guys, I wanted to start shooting some MX pics, and my current wal-mart digital camera just doesn`t cut it, anything in motion is just a blur on that thing. So I was wondering if there are any good cameras out there in the $500-$700 range that would be good for shooting fast-paced mx, if thats possible for that price range. I don`t know a damn thing about shooting but am willing to learn all the basics for sure. Thanks for any help!

Nikon D40. Good price, takes excellent pics! My wife just bought me one about a month back. I havnt taken it off auto yet, but the picture quality is amazing and it has all the features that I will be able to grow into when I get a little more foto knowledge....or it suits me fine right now and maybe ill remain foto ignorant!

This place usually has great prices, and Odeezie is right about the D40. I got a canon rebel XTi not long ago and I love it. But check out this link for a few different options and great prices.... Butterfly Photo (http://www.butterflyphoto.com/Digital_Cameras/Digital_SLR.html)

I loooove my D40 also. I have taken mine off of auto and it shoots nice, as far as I know. Rman and a couple others will chime in here giving you some more indepth recomendations, I'd assume.

Ok great I will look into one of those..any extra lenses I should be buying? Like one for close-ups and one for stuff a little farther away? Also, I found these in my house the other day, I don`t think they have ever been used. I don`t know if they are any good but they sure look confusing lol. They are all in nice cases and stuff so Im thinkin they gotta be at least decent..

The lense beside the nikon camera is 135mm it says, and the 2 konika lenses are 28mm and 50mm. Im not sure what lenses are currently on the camera. That is all I know about these ha.

$478 on the link I posted ya illiterate bizzatch!

And that's with the kit lens, although I'd suggest upgrading as soon as possible if you go with that option.

The lenses is where it gets expensive...Derek let me borrow one of his nicer lenses, it was amazing, but I stil havnt gotten one because they are like 6 or 7 hundo. :eek6:

Ask TFore or Rman or if you happen to see Thor2daCore back on anytime soon, hit him up...those guys know their camera shiz.

I didn't get a kit lens and ended up with this one. It's great for everyday stuff and I'm very happy with it! It wasn't top of the line, but it's not cheap.

A d40 is a good starter camera, but if you're heterosexual you'd probably be more interested in a Canon. </sarcasm> I started with a 20D body and an L series 70-200 f/2.8 lens. Excellent combo, the 20D and its successor the 30D have noth been discontinued to bring on the 40D, which is an excellent starter body as well, and pretty reasonable at around $1000 +/-. Lenses are where the real money goes, you can get a f/4 canon L series 70-200 (the universal moto focal length) for like 6 or 7 hundred bucks, for the f/2.8 version you can tack on an extra grand to that price) and that should be a really good start. Then if you have the means i'd suggest a 24-70, I have Canon's L series 2.8 of that lens too, it's really, really nice. Remember, the body is only as good as the lens in front of it. I'm not really the one to go to on Nikon specifics, but if you have any Canon question's I can answer anything you throw at me.

Ok..well I think I`m going to go for a nikon d40, I dont think I can spend another 700 bucks on a nice lense though, maybe down the road. I`ll have to do with the one that comes with for now..but no matter what I`m sure it will do much better than my $100 junker. Thanks guys.

Right now I'm borrowing a 55-200mm lens. It is alright but I want to try something else like a 70-200mm just to see how they compare. The kit lens is alright but you can't zoom in worth a damn.

Oh and for any other newbies like myself, I found a pretty decent tutorial on shooting motorsports in general. Read it at :: iPhotoForum.com | The Definitive Photography Community View topic - Motorsports Photography Tutorial (http://www.iphotoforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5322)

Stop acting like you know what you're talking about, noobler. Everybody knows you pose with your $10,000 Mark III setup. Pshh.

I stopped giving advise in here because it always turns into an argument, which brand is better and who knows more about what. My suggestion is to go shopping and read photography message boards. Cobra helped me out when I first started, PMing back and forth. Read and when you get the camera shoot pics like a mad man learning the camera.

I am sending my camera in for repair this week. It's only been 2 1/2 years since RC destroyed it at the Dallas SX!! :-D As soon as I get it back I will be shooting some BQ and Canard stuff.

Man, I really want a D40 :frown:. But, Im trying not to spend money.

I was gonna get one a while ago but my girl talked me into getting a really expensive HD video camera. The things awesome but I haven't come across anything cool enough worth filming. :-D Just the baby.
