Took the head off the four stroke, but the cams were turned over while the cam chain was off:confused: So now it is in an unknown stroke, and I can't really turn it over without worrying about smashing valves, and I'm without a kickstart, so I can't watch it while I'm trying to pushstart it. Is there any was I can get the timing right without any tools?

There should be indentations in the cam sprockets that line up with marks on the cylinder head somewhere.

If that fails, there is a simple 2-step process for fixing your problem:

1) Sell 4-stroke
2) Buy 2-stroke.

:-D Sorry, I had to.

:-D Sorry, I had to.I'm actually putting it together to sell it! Surely if the cams have moved in relation to the piston, lining it up with the marks wont fix its timing with the piston?

I just re-read your post and see that your cam chain was off. Ooops. The marks on the cam sprockets will help you time the two cams together, but not in relation to the piston.

You may have to re-remove the head and find TDC with the piston, then reinstall the head and the timing chain.

Hmm, don't have the tools or workspace to do that... May have to sell it as is or take it to a wrench to fix. Thanks anyway. Never would have gotten this with a valveless...

Try putting it in gear and turning the countershaft sprocket manually. (Remove the spark plug so there's no compression.) Shine a flashlight down the spark plug hole and watch for TDC. It won't be exact, but you might get pretty close.

I'll try that when it's all together. Its out of frame right now
