My young son has a Suzuki LT50 (kids 2 stroke quad, 50cc, no suspension, older type model) - we are trying to do some (basic) tuning etc to get a few more mph out of it - has anyone any experience with one to get it running right / better.

Heres what we have checked / done so far.

Someone checked the exhaust port for restrictor (it is well reported to be in there) and found none - (this was done prior to me owning quad) - I will double check this to be sure over the holidays but....

Inlet manifold restrictor removed (this was done prior to me owning quad) (so I assume above to be true).

Throttle screw restrictor removed.

Carb clean / general check over.

As suggested in other forums raised the needle one clip position (make the needle higher).

Made the small holes in airbox slightly bigger.

Removed spark arrestor from exhaust.

Non of the changes we did made any difference.

Basically the quad goes about 10-12 mph - and seems to only rev to half of what you expect it to do. It runs pretty good, no complaints there, but it just seems to lack revs and top end - i dont want it to go 30+mph but maybe another 4 or 5 mph would be a good start as my boys really got the hang of it.

Any help or suggestions, especially experienced lt50 owners, would be great.

Seen some videos on youtube and some of them really fly!

Merry xmas and happy new year to you all as well!

three things for you

#3a low compresion will keep it from reving out to the top end

#2jetting needs to be right !!!-but just moving the needle clip really does nothing .unless you are allready running good and just need to fine tune in the midrange

#1tunning the centrificall clutch will be the key to higher speeds:rockon:

if the clutch engages at low rpms it will keep that little motor from reving out all the way

set the clutch with the right washers and springs to engage at 3-5 k and tell your kids to hold on tight!!!!

cheers for the pointers.

we did some work over xmas and have got it running really really loads better - got my dad to help me whip the exhaust off and de-coak the build up in there, its a little rocket now. Did it on my nephews as well. They both run great.

Had him on it today for a while, in our field, was running really good on it, still got it restricted on the thumb throttle but keeping opening it up a bit each time he goes on it - no point letting him hurt himself. Gonna do a speed check with my crf x soon. Bet its going 2-3 times faster (than before, not my honda!)
