How many fingers do you use on the clutch and front brake?

I myself use 1 on the clutch and 1 on the front brake.

On minibikes I used to use 2 clutch/1 brake but for some reason I got into the habit of 2/2 on the big bikes.

2/2 for me. Maybe it's improper, but it has worked fine for me for a good 9 years.

I go 1/2. I didn't trust just having one digit up there slowing me down!

1/1

I use the index fingers on both hands. My brother tried to get me to try the middle finger approach on the clutch side but I just couldn't do it.

HAHAHAHAHA i know what you mean...been there/done that!

There isn't really a right/wrong way, it all depends on what feels more comfortable to you. When i won my SX championship and almost won the Nationals in 2000, I was using 1/2 and sometimes 2/2....but now, if I use 2 fingers on the front brake, I feel like I can't control the bike! When I started racing 250cc's, I started using 1/1 and that's what i have been doing since then. I only use 2/2 when I get arm pump now

Well my KTM SX250 clutch is like butter and I tend to use my middle finger 90% percent of the time. And for the brake its either the middle, or index finger, and/or both depends on fatigue and how brake pressure needs to be applied, and how fast.

I only rode 5-6 times since I retired over 2 years ago...
But that's gonna change soon! I just got my suspensions done (the stock ones were just wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too soft), and I'm gonna be giving a bunch of riding lessons this year, teamed up with Justin Buckelew, so I HAVE to get back on the bike

Before I saw that ronron created it I had entirely different expectations for this thread.

I've tried every way and just using my index finger for both has been the best for me

Mine differs if i am going to clutch it out of the corner then one. If its a really slow tight corner then i use two on the clutch side. Brakes depends on the bike- my honda had uprated pads so i used one, the zook had crappy brakes so two.

this is quite interesting really, so many diff ways to apply the same thing

I go middle/index on my clutch and just the index on my brake lol

motodrew295

I use index for both, I leave them up there at all times in the air and everything. I could never get how people use just their middle finger for the clutch.

2 and 1. It use to be 2 and 2 but i feel a lot more comfortable with just 1 on my brake.

I am always 1/1 but when i need to pull up quick i go 1/2 just so im grabbing onto the brake lever harder and have less grip on the throttle

Are you guys that use one finger for the clutch using a stock clutch and springs? Just curious.

I had to use 2 most of the time on the 450. Actually, I barely used the clutch on that thing who am I kidding? :-D

yeah mine is all stock but using 1 on the clutch i make sure i regularly lubricate the inside of the clutch cable with some silicone spray or something oil based, keeps it feeling like butter lol

1 on the clutch, and 1 on the break. Middle finger for both.

Do you guys think it would help with arm pump at all if I used more than one or different fingers?

I have to use the clutch a **** ton (CR250) so it's 2/2.

Hmm

I think the more fingers you have on the bar the less effort you have to put into squeezing to hold on. I would say the less fingers on the levers the better.

Easy answer: Try it and find out what works better for you.
