To be honest it sounds like a typical shooting, if there are such things. People get drunk and do stupid crap. I don't think it mattered that the victim was a Marine, it's not like he was in his uniform at the time. Sucks, but **** happens

The sick **** is the fact that this asshole hasn't been arrested yet. There were many witnesses...he shot him 6 ****ing times. His ass should be sitting in jail with a ridiculous bail amount. This **** is being grossly mis-handled.

Ya but atleast that guy is in jail and not on paid leave, and also much more likely to get what he deserves. I see they're looking into labeling it as a hate crime, as opposed to all those murders that are love crimes like the one Derek posted. That sh*t is just retarded. I'm not saying he should get less time, I just don't understand why they have to make the distinction.

At the very, very least the cop should lose his job. He was already disciplined for shooting someone while drunk and off-duty, and now it looks pretty compelling that he was drunk again. This time it was fatal. The dude is obviously not cut out to be a cop.

crime of passion versus crime of hate. They're both horrible excuses - just reasons. They're both pieces of ****.

That's freaking BS! Carrying around a weapon around while sh.it housed is retarted, especially as unstable as this guy obviously is.

Hmmm, strange name, muslim possibly? Just saying

The cop was probably doing it to avenge his brother Achmed's camel that was accidentally while attempting to restore order and law in Iraq.

Seriously though I support our police officers carrying firearms/tasers/ect. while on duty but off duty and especially drinking leave the weapons home. You are more like to hurt yourself than defend yourself and no on needs it there. I think it is great that they had obviously an unstable police officer running around with a weapon after a previous shooting while off duty while intoxicated. Self defense or not, officers should lose the right to take their pistol home after something like that

Whether or not he was a police officer shouldn't even come up. The man was unarmed, and I'm pretty sure cops aren't allowed to unload full clip on someone just for walking towards him in an aggressive manner or even for fighting. A single shot to the foot (like he had done before) I can see because that's clear that he was just trying to diffuse a situation (even if it was the wrong way to go about it), but when you pull the trigger 13 times in an altercation like that, it's clear what his intention was. He wasn't trying to do his duty as a cop, he was just pissed off and wanted to kill the guy. That's murder, not self defense.
He must have been muslim :bait:

Nope, not trolling.

I could be wrong though, maybe it's an Indian name.

It's just wierd to me that he shot at a Marine 13 times for what appears to be no reason. And you can usually spot a Marine from about a mile away. Being drunk will cause you to have more balls than you usually have, and if he was harboring some ill will towards military folk, well, you can guess what might happen.

That's one theory atleast.

A single shot to the foot (like he had done before) I can see because that's clear that he was just trying to diffuse a situation (even if it was the wrong way to go about it),

Even in self defense, never pull a gun on someone unless you intend to kill them. Obviously try to diffuse the situation peacefully, but if you must pull the trigger, make sure it's a kill shot, any lawyer or good cop will tell you that. Or else in court, you will be asked why a gun was necessary if your intent was to only injure and not kill. Hello prison.

I sort of agree that police should not be allowed to bring home their service weapon, I hate the mindset that cops are more responsible with a firearm than us civies. Remember, police are usually only required to train with their firearm once or twice a year. A shooter who shoots as a hobby tends to shoot a lot more than that. But remember, even off duty, they have a responsibility to protect or help someone when in need. So that is why I kinda agree. No one should be allowed to carry a firearm if they are going out drinking, cop or not. If you want to carry a firearm to protect yourself, control your urges and don't get wasted. Firearms 101, guns and booze are like oil and water. Alcohol is probably the worst drug in my book, top 5 anyways. I drink, but I leave my weapons locked in a safe at all times unless I am going to a range, SOBER! It's idiots like this who make it easy for politicians to infringe on our 2A rights.

Really? Is it better to use a gun to try to kill someone than it is to simply injure them in order to difuse a situation?

jnickell
06-11-2010, 02:12 PM
I think his point is that if you pull out a deadly weapon, you better be prepared to be deadly with it. To me, a gun is only useful in a life or death situation. Keep it out of the fight unless your life is in danger.

I'm pretty sure, civilily, at least, you have to use equal force as is used against you. Unless the other guy brandished a deadly weapon, the gun is completely illegal to use, even IN self-defense.

I, personally, don't see how this couldn't be murder.
