I've never head about this until today while reading the Racerhead and then watching the Bills and Colts when the announcer mentioned something about it. I think it's made up. Sounds kinda like how a hangover is after a night of drinking? Can't remember things, your head hurts, your irritable...

I think I've had 3-4 concussions (at least 3, I'm not sure about one of them so it could be 4), and I've never really had any problems the day after. In fact, after two of my concussions my head didn't even hurt afterwards. But concussions are a complicated issue that have different effects and everybody. If you've read Travis Pastrana's book you would know more about them since he talks about how they've effected him differently every time. After one of his concussions he felt sick and dizzy for a long time (maybe even a few weeks) and had another concussion that made it worse, then a few days later got ANOTHER one and it made him feel normal again. So, like I said earlier, they can effect you in so many different ways it's hard to say what they can or cannot do.

I think it is real, the worst concussion that I ever got messed me up for about a week and I was told not to ride for 6 months because of it. I couldnt remember an entire day and would get random dizzy spells or get nauseous because of it. It sucked.

I have had two concussions where I lost a fair bit of time/memory, and went and got CT scans. I remember going back to work after a day off realizing my thought process was total out. On these two occasions I just felt fuzzy and couldnt think clearly for about a week.

Ive had 3 concussions and one brain hematoma. The concussions werent bad the next days but the hematoma was. It kept me from thinking clearly for about a month and gave me headaches that were about the most painful thing ive ever had

I'm still dealing with a gnarly concussion, if that's what they call major brain trauma. The worst I have ever had. I don't even remember one second of the first week. Weeks 2 and 3 (still in hospital) are pretty much gone too unless someone tells me about a specific incident that I may or may not remember. Week 4 I started to regain a little bit of short term memory. Currently I'm at the end of week 9 and my short term memory is WAY better but still not 100% I'm thinking it's about 85 - 90% but that's just a guess. I don't experience the extreme head aches but my head constantly feels a little pain but it's not unbearable. Praying for ya man, and Cue too. He rung his bell pretty badly too.

I after my second concussion (Red Bud crash last season) I returned to action too soon, and subsequently got headaches every single day because of it, and my speech and memory got a little bit worse for a while. I also couldn't focus as well on tasks.
But after this last crash, I've been fine mentally. But I also have no chance of returning to action too soon because of my knee. I've been a lot more fatigued though, which is from the concussion. I still can't remember anything from the crash. I remember pulling onto the track, then being 30 minutes away from home. So that's probably around 3-4 hours I don't remember at all.

My first concussion, I dont remember a single thing from that day, except that when I came to I had a broken collarbone.
My second concussion, I dont remember too much from that day either. Dont have a clue as to how I crashed.
Third concussion I actually remember most of the day, even remember how I crashed. The weird thing was the concussion itself, it knocked out some pretty random memories for awhile. A few hours after the crash I had forgotten that my brother got married, that my girlfriend and I had broken up, and when my grandma came to get me I couldnt figure out who she was.
I started riding way too soon after that concussion because my track was being built at the time. Sure enough I cased a double and landed right on my head. No concussion but I lost vision for about 10 seconds, scary as hell.
Concussions are weird things

I've had a couple. The worst one was 2 years ago and a couple days after it happened I was bending over hooking the water line to the washer to clean my bikes and my nose started pouring clear liquid like a faucet. Turns out that is an indicator of a skull fracture but I never had any pain, headaches, or loss of consciousness. I'm hoping it just knocked some stuff loose in my sinuses or was allergies.

Basically post concussion syndrome is just how your brain reacts to the concussion symptom-wise, but the term is usually only used to describe the effects of a more serious concussion. So for instance you sustain a concussion but 2 weeks later you still experience headaches, dizziness, you can't think clearly and (for collegiate or high school athletes) you can't concentrate in school and have a hard time focusing cognitively....people would call that post concussion syndrome. So yes, it definitely does exist and should be taken very seriously. And it's actually the reason why the NFL has put so many new rules concerning concussions into action...for instance now, if an NFL player is even suspected of having a concussion, he has to be removed from the game/practice for the remainder of the day and can't return to play until he's cleared by a physician.

I hope you went to see a doctor after that. That is not to be ignored but it sounds like you made it through that occurence just fine. However, you should have sought out medical attention. Read the article on concussions below. They specifically mention the fluid dealio.

Yes, I definitely did. They couldn't find anything that would indicate a skull fracture which is why I'm hoping it was just sinus or allergies and not something overlooked.

My last one 2 years ago was gnarly...a head whipper, slammed to the ground by the bike. That was my 4th. It always feels like a 10-year hangover.

Ya, hitting your head is never something to joke around with. Can be a silent killer. Also, if you haven't had a concussion, try keeping it that way. Injuries to your head are usually permanent in one way or another. May not be a noticeable permanent injury, but concussions are easier to get after the first one, and can be much more severe and life threatening. Hit your head, go see a doc, that lil co-pay up front is worth it. Had 1 concussion, was about 16 and looped out on my BMX bike. Saw stars for a while, had a bad taste in my mouth for few hours, and felt sick the rest of the day. Turned out it wasn't serious, but always see a doc.
I don't remember much from the first day of my worst concussion, but didn't have any trouble remembering after that day. Some of you scare me with those stories, because mine wasn't any fun.

Believe it or not case, it scares me too. Hell, mine was a little more than a concussion (understatement). I think they call what I had TBI (traumatic brain injury). I mean, jeez, they didn't know if I was going to live the first few hours. I feel sooooo lucky to have a brain that works pretty close to normal after that. Still healing though.

They've been doing a lot of studies on the connection with multiple concussions and Lou Gehrigs disease. Something about protein buildup from the damage having some sort of effect on the spinal cord, I don't really know all the details and I don't really feel like looking it up, but maybe later I'll be able to say more about it considering I have to write a paper on the subject. But anyways, it's been found to be more prevalent among ex football players, soccer players, etc.
Scary stuff for sure. I've had a few times that I was straight knocked out and didn't remember anything, once where I was out for 10-15 minutes, and a couple of those times I didn't even know where I was. I was in a car accident once where the cops thought I might have been drunk (they could smell beer on me, but my friends said I only drank like 2 and didn't even finish my 2nd one), but anyways, I couldn't walk a straight line or stand on one foot, slurred speach, and I couldn't comprehend why there were so many flashing lights all around me. Then I got a breathalizer and blew a .01 or .02 or something, haha. Those guys actually let me drive home. I guess I went back to my friends house instead. I don't actually remember any of it, but that's the story I got from my friend a few days later when I spoke to him. I feel like everytime I tell that story I'm lying because it's kind of like I heard a rumor about what happened to someone else, but that person was me and some parts just don't even sound right.
